Modern Silent Cinema’s Passages XXXIII-XLIII (for Piano, Guitar, and Bass) is the fourth installment in the on-going "Passages" series of postmodern lo-fi classical music, as well as the first in the series to expand beyond solo piano. Incorporating guitar, bass, and electronic effects, Cullen Gallagher’s latest album is also his most personal. Written and recorded in the old family home during his mother’s hospital stay, the compositions reflect a sense of solitude and isolation, the anxiety of an uncertain future, and the melancholy of nostalgia. Upon her return home, Gallagher’s mother painted the portrait that graces the album cover.
